Thor Besier
Thor is a Professor at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) and has a joint appointment with the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Auckland. He completed a PhD at The University of Western Australia and spent 8 years at Stanford University where he was a faculty member in the Department of Orthopaedics. Thor returned to NZ in 2011 to lead the musculoskeletal modelling group at the ABI. Thor has published 135 papers on musculoskeletal biomechanics, which have received >12,500 citations. Thor has spun-out two companies from his research, including IMeasureU (inertial sensing for human movement) and FormusLabs (orthopaedic planning).
